This gallery shows the beginning of my art journey. I’m putting this up so other people who want to study art can see the progress I made over the years.
Mostly this is to show that even if you are undisciplined as fuck, lazy, and super unmotivated, that you too can become a good artist. You just gotta put in the time.
It was grueling for me in the beginning. I absolutely hated art practice, I just wanted to be drawing anime tiddies right off the bat. Like any skill, it takes time. You have to spend a lot of time working on fundamentals, so that you can build the skills necessary to create whatever you want.
(My Previous Art History: I drew a lot of doodles and comics as a kid but then stopped cold turkey after middle school. I pretty much did not draw at all for 10+ years after that. I decided to start teaching myself art late September/early October of 2016.)
2018 EDIT: If you’re looking for advice as a beginner artist, do not read this article! This article has outdated information that I no longer believe in.

So I hope I’ve illustrated how good you can get (if you’re extremely undisciplined like me). If you draw everyday you will be light years ahead of me in your first year. ๐
To this:
I sketched the pose from imagination, used a posing doll to make sure I got the perspective somewhat passable, and actually colored the picture. My light and shadow knowledge is still pretty much non-existent but I still tried.
Haven’t posted any of my finished pictures in quite a while. I’ve been mostly doing lots of studies and finally forcing myself to learn perspective. ๐ Besides that not much goin’ on. Lately I’ve come up with this idea of forcing myself to finish a picture (relatively) quickly. I get bogged down because of my perfectionism trying to make every little detail perfect, which drags the picture out of a week or 2 and then I lose momentum and get bored with the picture and struggle to finish it. So now I’m trying to work on a picture about an hour or two a day and it worked out really well for me on this picture. I still noticed a bunch of errors the next day after finishing but whatevs! I need to be focusing more on just simply drawing every day and I will get better with time.
